Xanthelasma is a condition in which yellow cholesterol deposits form in the skin of the eyelids. It is not always a sign of high blood cholesterol, but it can be a cosmetic concern for those affected. Some people may have a genetic predisposition to it.
At MedAesthetics, we treat a range of benign, raised or flat skin lesions — including xanthelasma, moles, skin tags and milia — using our dermatological laser platforms.
Treatment Options for Xanthelasma
Xanthelasma may be addressed in several ways. At MedAesthetics, the options we offer are:
- Ablation with a CO2 laser
- Chemical peel (TCA)
Other approaches, such as excision, may be performed by other medical providers. At your consultation we examine the area and discuss which option, if any, is appropriate for you.
Following laser or chemical treatment of an eyelid lesion, the treated area typically forms a small scab that heals over several days. Aftercare instructions are provided. Because the eyelid is a delicate area, treatment is a considered decision and is carried out only after individual assessment.
As with any cosmetic procedure, there are risks. These can include infection during healing, temporary changes in skin colour or texture, and scarring. Individual results vary, and all cosmetic procedures carry risks and possible side effects — these are discussed with you at your consultation. Treatment at MedAesthetics is overseen by Dr Ehsan Jadoon (MED0001586460) — Registered Medical Practitioner (general registration).
Important Note
Some skin lesions can look similar to skin cancers. Any new, changing, bleeding or uncertain lesion should be assessed by your GP or a skin-cancer clinic — and any suspicious mole biopsied — before cosmetic removal. Cosmetic laser removal is only suitable for lesions confirmed to be benign.
