MOA

Non-surgical otoplasty is a procedure aimed to reshape prominent ears without an open incision. Under local anaesthetic, fine sutures are placed through small (around 2 mm) puncture points to reshape the anti-helical fold or to draw the ear closer to the head. The sutures hold the reshaped cartilage in position. It can be an alternative to conventional (surgical) otoplasty for carefully selected patients, and outcomes vary between individuals.

Non-Surgical Otoplasty General Information

The procedure is performed as a day procedure and usually takes 60 to 120 minutes. Initial healing is generally around 10–14 days: complete rest is advised for the first 24 hours, light activity is generally allowed after 24 hours, and gym or strenuous activity should be avoided for at least two weeks. As with any cosmetic medical procedure there are potential risks — these can include infection, delayed wound healing, asymmetry and under-correction. The treatment is intended for adults in sound physical and mental health with realistic expectations; it is not suitable for people with body dysmorphic traits or unrealistic expectations, and suitability is assessed carefully at consultation.

Choosing an experienced and appropriately qualified provider is important when considering non-surgical otoplasty.

  • Clinical assessment: Your ears should be carefully assessed before treatment to determine whether you are suitable.
  • Relevant experience: Choose a provider with experience in cosmetic ear treatments and a good understanding of ear anatomy.
  • Personalised treatment: Your treatment should be tailored to your ear shape, structure and individual goals.
  • Clear expectations: A reputable provider should explain what can realistically be achieved, as well as the limitations and potential risks.
  • Clinical oversight: Ensure appropriate medical oversight is available, particularly if complications or unexpected concerns arise.
  • Aftercare: You should receive clear aftercare instructions and have access to follow-up support.
