MOA

A fine-needle device is passed over the treatment area to create many small, controlled micro-channels in the skin. These micro-injuries prompt the skin’s natural repair response, activating cells called fibroblasts that produce fresh collagen and elastin. Over time this can improve the firmness, tone and texture of the skin.

Medical Skin Needling Treatment Summary

A course of around 3–6 sessions spaced every 4–6 weeks is commonly recommended, with optional maintenance sessions every few months depending on your individual plan.

Each appointment typically takes about 30–45 minutes, including numbing where required.

The sensation varies between patients; the skin is usually prepared with a high-strength topical numbing cream, and options such as inhalation (laughing) gas or a skin-cooling device may also be used.

Most patients experience around 24–48 hours of redness afterwards, though recovery varies between individuals.

Results develop gradually over a course of treatments and vary between individuals; they are not immediate.

Improvements to scars, stretch marks and skin texture can be long-lasting but are not permanent; how long results last varies between individuals, and maintenance sessions are often recommended.

Most usual activities can be resumed soon afterwards, but you should avoid direct sunlight, strenuous activity and chlorinated water until the skin has healed.

Medical Skin Needling General Information

During treatment, a Dermapen 4 device is passed over the prepared skin to create many fine micro-channels. This triggers a natural healing response in which fibroblasts produce fresh collagen and elastin, which may improve the firmness and texture of the skin. The device’s needle depth can be adjusted for different areas and concerns, and treatment may be paired with LED (Healite) light therapy. Any serums used during the procedure are cosmetic (non-prescription) products.

Skin needling deliberately breaks the skin’s surface to prompt collagen, so hygiene and technique matter more than with a surface treatment. When comparing providers, weigh up:

  • Whether single-use, sterile needle cartridges are used and infection-control standards are clear, since the procedure creates open micro-channels
  • Whether the operator adjusts needle depth to the area and concern — a shallow setting for delicate skin differs from deeper work on scars or stretch marks
  • Whether your skin type is assessed for the risk of pigment change, which can affect darker skin, and any serums are checked against your sensitivities
  • Whether the practitioner is registered and honest that results come from a course over time, not a single visit

Because needling penetrates the skin, infection control and sound clinical judgement about needle depth are where medical oversight earns its place. At MedAesthetics the treatment is carried out in a doctor-led clinic overseen by Dr Ehsan Jadoon (MED0001586460), Registered Medical Practitioner (general registration), by a qualified clinical team using single-use needle cartridges. Your skin type and the area being treated are assessed first — including the risk of pigment change and any serum sensitivities — and the benefits, likely recovery, risks such as bruising or asymmetry, and alternatives are explained openly. There is no pressure to proceed. Book a consultation to find out whether skin needling suits your skin and concern.
