How Long Do Chin and Jawline Treatment Results Last?

Before and after injectable treatment to the chin and jawline, by RN Dani, Senior Injector

If you are considering a non-surgical treatment to add volume or definition to the chin and jawline, one of the most common questions is how long the results last. There is no single answer: results are temporary, they vary considerably from person to person, and the only way to understand what is realistic for you is an individual assessment with a qualified practitioner.

A treatment of this kind is a non-surgical treatment and a considered decision, not a routine one. Where a change is made, it usually becomes noticeable over several days, allowing time to adjust to any subtle difference.

The medicines used in many injectable treatments are prescription-only. By law we can’t name specific brands, products or quantities in public information — these, along with whether any treatment is appropriate for you, its benefits, its limitations and its risks, are discussed with you during a consultation. Individual results vary, and outcomes depend on the individual.

Quick insights

  • Results are temporary and gradually fade as the body processes the material used; there is no guaranteed duration.
  • Your lifestyle, metabolism and skin characteristics all influence how long a result lasts.
  • Any decision to have further treatment should follow a reassessment, not a fixed timetable.

Results are temporary and individual

Rather than a fixed timeframe, it is more useful to think of longevity as something that depends on a combination of factors — which is exactly why a treatment plan is based on your own assessment rather than a standard schedule. You can read more about the treatment itself in our guide to non-surgical chin and jawline enhancement.

A treatment of this kind adds volume and definition; it does not remove fat, so it is not a treatment for fullness under the chin caused by fat. Facial variation is normal, and whether treatment is appropriate is an individual decision. A natural-looking result is the clinical aim, but outcomes vary from person to person and are not guaranteed.

What influences how long results last

Several factors interact, so two people having a similar treatment can have quite different experiences:

  • The material used. Different materials behave differently — some are gel-type and designed to be temporary, while some are firmer and longer-lasting and may also support the body’s own collagen over time. Longer-lasting options are chosen carefully because they are not easily reversed; this is part of the discussion at a consultation.
  • The amount used and the technique. These are clinical decisions made for each person. More is not “better” and can increase the risk of complications, so the amount used is not a target.
  • Individual factors. Metabolism, age, general health and skin condition all play a part; a faster metabolism may process the material sooner. Age can matter too, as skin changes over time, and a result may settle differently in older compared with younger individuals — how quickly your body processes the material is one of the things covered in Understanding injectable treatments for facial volume and lines.
  • Lifestyle. Regular, vigorous physical activity may slightly increase the rate at which the material breaks down, while smoking can accelerate skin ageing and may shorten how long a result is visible, due to impaired circulation. Daily sun protection and good hydration support skin health generally.

Risks, recovery and what to expect

A treatment of this kind is injectable and carries risks, so having one is a considered decision. Common and usually temporary side effects include swelling, redness, bruising and tenderness at the injection site, which typically settle within a few days to a couple of weeks. Less commonly, small lumps, unevenness or asymmetry can occur. Rare but serious complications — such as a blocked blood vessel (vascular occlusion) — require immediate medical attention. Your practitioner will discuss these risks and the recovery experience with you before any treatment, and recovery differs between individuals.

Aftercare and maintaining a result

If you go ahead, you’ll be given aftercare advice specific to your treatment. Following it, and attending any review appointments, allows the result to be reviewed and, where appropriate, adjusted over time. Light massage of the area, only if recommended by your practitioner, may help the material settle evenly.

Daily broad-spectrum SPF 50+ sunscreen, consistent hydration and a regular skincare routine support skin health generally. Any follow-up treatment is best based on individual reassessment rather than a fixed timetable, and how often that falls varies from person to person. Lifestyle choices such as maintaining a stable weight and limiting sun exposure may help preserve a result.

For a longer-lasting change to chin projection, a chin implant is a separate, surgical option — not a non-surgical treatment — and would be explored with an appropriately qualified surgical provider.
